A Very Subtle Beggar

Image
TerraDactyl likes to beg for food while we're making lunch (and sometimes dinner).  She used to stand there with her head tilted back and mouth wide open.  But lately, she's added a new way to indicate hunger:  Lip licking.  It is too funny.  I love her pointy little tongue.   Unfortunately, TerraDactyl's interest in my glasses has been renewed.  She's getting really good at snatching them off my face when I least expect it.  I let her play with them one time thinking it might remove the mysteriousness of them, but I don't think it worked.  But I'm not the only one TerraDactyl steals things from.  She's also a hat thief.  She even managed to put DH's hat on herself.  It's only a little bit too big.  ;) The other day we were playing Keep Away with Riley and TerraDactyl decided to join in.  Apparently, she also loves the game.  It's good to know that DH and I can use the exact same methods to tire out our toddler as we use on our dog.  :D

Hiding in Closets

Image
The other day, TerraDactyl and I were in my room.  Then I walked out, expecting her to follow me like she always does... but she didn't.  So I wandered around and finally found her hiding in my closet.  Turns out, she just wanted a nice quiet place to poop.  :) Sometimes, TerraDactyl gives off mixed signals.  Like when she points at her head and says "ha" aka "hat".  So I put it on.  And then she stands there and yells incomprehensible things at me.  It was actually really funny.  I think this was a case of child logic: I want to go outside, but mom always puts my hat on me first.  So I should ask her to put my hat on so then she'll take me outside.   TerraDactyl has been VERY interested in mushrooms lately.  When we read the Bug book, she points out ALL the mushrooms.  And she always makes sure to show me all the mushrooms in our yard.  This one is a tiny black one, so you really have to look for it.   Another fun/scary development:  the concept of portable

Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls

TerraDactyl has accepted spaghettios into her diet.  However, she disdains the meatballs that come with the pasta.  She still only eats WinCo meatballs.   And sometimes, she's just too tired to even eat.  Or something.  I'm not sure what's going on in the video...  It sort of reminds me of a reclining Roman being fed grapes.  :) Playing in the basement is quite interesting.  TerraDactyl has started handing me all the objects she's not allowed to play with (computer mouse, remotes, baby monitor, jar of chocolate chips, etc) so that I can put them away up high on the bookshelves.  Once that's been done, she's super excited to explore around the room and find things.  She discovered by old D&D bag and she really likes that thing.  It's full of dice and figurines and stuff.  She loves taking each bag out and emptying it onto the ground and making a huge mess. Part of me is really excited for TerraDactyl to grow up enough for us to play games like Hide &

A box! What's in it?

TerraDactyl has started getting bossy about the weirdest things.  She's pretty particular about how she likes things done.  After she wakes up in the morning or after naps, she wants her sleep sack to be hung on the side of the crib (where we usually put it).  And she'll point at her noise maker and night light as if to tell us to turn them off.  But perhaps the strangest thing, is the way she insists we put a trash can liner in the trash can after emptying out the dirty diapers.  She is SO insistent about the fact that there should be a plastic bag lining the can.  I'm hoping this means I won't have to train her to replace the garbage bag when she's old enough to take the garbage out.  :) TerraDactyl has learned that there's more than one possible use for a laundry basket.  She was just pushing it around the house and putting random stuff into it.  If she would have let me carry the basket around to put the things away, she might have helped save me some effort

Halloween!

Image
I'm pretty far behind in my pictures, if you can't tell based on the holiday pics...  DH and I often end up doing really elaborate Halloween costumes.  But with trick or treating effectively cancelled, we decided not to do it this year.  Which means I didn't have a Halloween costume for TerraDactyl either.  I figured I would just dress her in one of her Halloween themed outfits.  We had a few friends stop by, so TerraDactyl did get to try on a costume.  Who wore it better? Of course, TerraDactyl is too opinionated about her clothes to just settle for a costume.  She had to add to it.  So she ended up being a Crigunk.  A Crigunk is a crab-tiger-skunk.  It's a distant relative of the Chimera.  😉 It was so much fun watching TerraDactyl interact with baby Ruvalwood.  It makes me wish we weren't in a pandemic...  But we all know that if wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak .  The two little kids were just so funny interacting with each other.  So drawn to ea

First Hair Cut!

Image
TerraDactyl's bangs have been a bit unruly of late.  I've been sweeping them off to the side with the intention of using a clip or barrette to hold them there.  But I've been having some difficulty finding a satisfactory toddler barrette.  Her hair is so fine and delicate and I don't want to damage it.   When I was in high school, I did gymnastics with a girl used to use a metal clip to hold her bangs back while she practiced.  One day she landed on the clip and it basically turned the metal clip into scissors.  Every hair got cut.  So she stopped using clips and just used gel.  But it's hard to find a gel strong enough to withstand gymnastics.  So she ended up looking like Sonic the Hedgehog by the end of every practice.  Obviously, this is not exactly a likely scenario, but it does make me a bit cautious.   Not to mention that TerraDactyl doesn't like anything on her head.  She removes hats, headbands, hoods...  pretty much anything on her head, she whips it

Timber!

We finally cut down the remains of that maple tree.  Two thirds of the tree had already fallen down in separate incidences.  The tree had too much damage to recover.  So DH chopped down the tree and Opa just barely managed to guide the tree so it didn't take out my poor raspberry bushes.  And then we had more wood to cut and stack.  We're going to have so much wood next winter!   We still have a stump in the back yard from the maple tree.  It is the perfect height for TerraDactyl to sit on.  Every time she goes outside, she has to sit on the stump.  It's pretty funny.  It reminds me of the Giving Tree - but you know, without me bursting into tears.   DH ran a half marathon race!  He ran the 13.1 miles in 1 hour, 45 min.  That's an 8 min mile pace!  It was a virtual race, so participants have a week to complete the race and they don't have to follow the course, they can run it wherever they want.  So, they managed to make a race with social distancing, but...  there
