18 Months Old!

TerraDactyl turned 18 months old the other day!  And whether by chance or design, she got some presents in the mail!  TerraDactyl got a stuffed chimpanzee and elephant as well as a new pair of shoes (all shown in picture above) from the Ruvalwoods.  She also got a new book, Ada Twist, Scientist from the Juggernought family.

I found a recipe for 3-ingredient toddler cookies.  I was so excited to try them out because it's literally just oats, bananas, and cinnamon.  Once I made the cookies, TerraDactyl would NOT eat them.  She wouldn't even acknowledge them.  And then one day, she just picked up a cookie and ate nearly the whole thing!  It was weird.  But it was also exciting because this was the first food that she's actually taken bites of.  So that's been fun too.  There's a few variations for the recipe.  The picture above is the peanut butter one, but I haven't had a chance to try the carrot variation yet.  I'm hoping I can just keep sneaking random healthy foods in there to feed to her.  :D

Since TerraDactyl is now 18 months old, we had a check up with the doctor.  She's 22 lbs, 14oz (55th percentile), and 30.5" tall (13th percentile).  She's only an inch below average height, but the curve is so steep at this age it dropped her down to the 13th percentile!  I'm not too worried though.  I grew 5 or 6 inches in high school.  I came in short and left pretty tall.  Or, it may just be that TerraDactyl will be short and she'll just have to learn how to utilize stools.  ;)

The doctor said TerraDatyl looked like she was doing great.  She's healthy physically and doing well developmentally.  She scored really well on her physical abilities test (walking, climbing, stairs, etc).  TerraDactyl also did really well on the reasoning tests that they asked of her (like figuring out she had to turn a bottle with a small opening upside down to get the Cheerio out).  She is a little behind on her verbal communication.  She doesn't say a whole lot of words and she doesn't string them together yet.  But since she understands when we speak to her, the doctor wasn't too concerned about it (yet).  Like, when TerraDactyl indicates she wants to go outside, I can say "you need a coat and shoes to go outside" and she'll go to the other room to grab her shoes and coat and give them to me.

We stopped by the park today while we were on our walk.  TerraDactyl was a bit more willing to try things out.  She really likes the slide.  And we did the see-saw and a spring thingie.  She spent a lot of time with those.  And swinging, of course.  She's still staring intensely at other people and only acknowledging them with a scowl.  But she wasn't clinging to my leg like last time.  Maybe one day she'll even smile at the other children.  :)
