Turns out, Firefighting Helicopters don't help put out fires... ?!?

We've had a busy few days.  TerraDactyl found some new toys to play with outside.  In the time we've been here she hasn't noticed the collection of figurines and tractors beside the garage.  But she finally wandered over to them and started to play.  Now, every time we go out front she stops to play with the tractors.

It could have been a coincidence, but immediately after Grandpa and I had been discussing the slipperiness of the wet concrete and whether or not he would use textured paint to give it more traction, TerraDactyl picked up the paintbrush and began pretending to pain the concrete.  She even dipped the paintbrush in the (empty) pain tray between swipes at the driveway.  Eventually, she found the bucket of water for the dogs and dipped her brush in the water so she could see where she was painting.  It was pretty sweet.  Of course, once the brush was wet, she managed to get her clothes totally soaked, but it was still really sweet.

TerraDactyl's first taste of kiwi.  She ate nearly a whole kiwi the first time she ate it.  Since then, she's only eaten about one slice at a sitting.  Grandma and Grandpa got to experience what happens when TerraDactyl eats something with egg/dairy.  (Spoiler:  it involves a complete purge of the stomach).  It was actually pretty easy because Grandma could give TerraDactyl a bath while I got to shower (I got the brunt of the purge).

TerraDactyl got to play Duplos with her second cousins.  It took her a while before she felt comfortable joining in, but she did eventually.  And then she saw the football one of them had brought and she stole it and ran off to see what the grown ups were doing.  It was pretty funny.

There was some drama that caused quite a bit of stress and eventually ended with a baby AmStaff terrier staying with Great Grandma (at least for a little while).  She's an adorable little puppy who adores Great Grandma.  The picture below is TerraDactyl stuffing herself into a (removed) hanging basket while we were all trying to eat dinner.  It was so funny.  Unfortunately I had a hard time getting a good picture because of the intensity of the light coming through the windows.

This video involves many of TerraDactyl's favorite things:  mailing envelopes, bubble wrap, shiny objects, miniature sized objects.

The puppy playing with Riley:

Oh, and if you were wondering about how Oregon feels about having the bulk of our firefighting helicopters out on loan in Afghanistan while the entire state burns down...  the official line is...  Wait for it... Having the Chinook helicopters here wouldn't have made any difference.  Because there was wind.  And anyways, the Black Hawk helicopters are faster.  First off, the windstorm was just two days.  The fires have been burning for six weeks.  And while the Black Hawk helicopters are faster, they have 1/4 the carrying capacity.  So are they four times as fast?  As the Chinook can fly 195 mph, that means the Black Hawk would have to be able to fly faster than the speed of sound (767 mph) in order to drop the same amount of water.  Hint:  it can't.  Anyways, even if all their spin doctoring, behind-covering BS was true...  If these top of the line firefighting helicopters don't help us put out wildfires then WHY DID WE BUY THE HELICOPTERS?

Here's another happy video of TerraDactyl trying to learn to dress herself:
