Spring is in the air

Picnic lunch! |
Ah spring! The weather is warming up, the birds are singing, people are spending more time outside, and it's time to shift to your warm weather wardrobe. It's a beautiful time of year.

But some parts of spring are not as wonderful. Our awesome dining room windows are now covered in mating Box Elder beetles. Not exactly world ending, but it is a bit annoying. Especially since the previous owners of the house removed all the window screens in preparation of selling the house. Now we've got to go through and figure out which screens go with which windows. :(

Mmm, who added Leg o' Lamb to the menu? It's delicious! |
And of course, it's not spring without mention of the pollen! We have been getting an amazing amount of pollen. The deck and car are just covered. Our first indication of the massive amount of pollen was looking out the window and thinking someone had spray painted Riley's head green. It was amazingly stark. I wish I'd taken a picture of it. But I was too busy freaking out thinking the neighbor had sprayed a pesticide or something on Riley. I made DH go out and hose him off immediately. But it was just pollen. Phew! I guess our beautiful forest is trying to reproduce. Or kill me. ;) Just kidding, my allergies aren't that bad. But they're definitely there.

TerraDactyl LOVES being outside. Like to an insane degree. Hopefully she doesn't inherit DH and my allergies. As the weather warms up, we're going to have to migrate around the lawn following the shade so TerraDactyl can get her outside time in while not burning to a crisp. We're all still healthy, DH and I are just dealing with a bit of allergies.

DH and I have debated over when to declare TerraDactyl's "First Step". Is it any movement of a foot? Does it have to make significant forward motion? Does it need to include both feet moving (first full pace)? Is it like the definition of a touchdown, where the player must maintain control after impacting the ground? Well, I'm calling it. TerraDactyl has made her first step. She's done it a few times, but here's one I caught on video. Significant forward motion of the foot, and maintained control. She still prefers crawling, but I have a feeling it won't be long before she's fully bipedal.
That was definitely a step. YAY!
