A Wedding and a Doctor's Appointment

This weekend we had a wedding.  It was a multi-day celebration/camping event, but DH and I weren't sure about bringing TerraDactyl out for multiple days in the heat and dealing with the hassle of camping.  So DH caught a ride with Juggerknot on Saturday and TerraDactyl and I followed on Sunday for the wedding and reception.  This was DH's first night away from TerraDactyl, and I was a little apprehensive on how things would go without me having his support.  But we did really well.  TerraDactyl actually went to bed early and it was her best night of sleep since we started unswaddling her.

Believe it or not, but we took absolutely no photos during or after the wedding.  We spent too much time visiting with friends.  The wedding was beautiful, set among the bride's parents' apple trees.  A large percentage of the guests were small children.  There was a whole section of kids chairs.  And it was the perfect wedding for kids.  I kind of wish TerraDactyl was a bit older so she could really appreciate it.  There was a whole play area with swings and slides and a ball pit.  The kids obviously enjoyed the wedding.  Thankfully I thought to bring a couple of blankets because we spent most of the day sitting in the grass visiting with our friends.  We stayed through dinner and cake, and before we knew it, we barely had enough time to get home so DH could get enough sleep before work on Monday.

Surprisingly comfortable, apparently.  Too bad we didn't end up using them...

Monday was TerraDactyl's 4 month doctor's appointment.  She's 15 lb, 9oz and 24.6 inches long.  That puts her in the 80th percentile in weight and about the 55th percentile in length.  So she's tracking about where she's been.  The doctor said she looks like she's doing awesome and if we wanted to, we could start trying some regular foods.  At this point, the food wouldn't really be a lot of nutritional use - the doctor said it would mostly end up on her face, hands, and the floor.  :)  But it's to get her used to different textures and flavors.  She said to see it more as a play time activity than a meal time at this point in time.

That's one big baby!

While we waited for the nurse to come give TerraDactyl her vaccinations - two shots and an oral vaccine - TerraDactyl ate.  She'd spent the whole doctor's visit trying to eat me, anything that was close to her mouth got sucked on.  I'm surprised I didn't end up covered in hickeys!  Anyways, the nurse showed up and instead of making the nurse wait for her 15 minutes of upright time I decided to just go ahead and skip it and go straight to the vaccinations.  (Just a little foreshadowing here).  We did the oral one first.  The nurse got almost all of it in TerraDactyl - which was quite the feat.  TerraDactyl is apparently well ahead of the curve in the ability to spit things out.  The nurse was impressed.  Anyway, we were almost done and then - boom!  Full on Exorcist projectile vomiting.  Since TerraDactyl was laying down, it looked a bit like a geyser.  I swear, it went at least six inches up into the air and then...  everywhere.  She was drenched.  Top and bottom because it soaked into the paper on the table.  So.  Skipping that upright time was a BAD idea.  Since the eruption happened immediately and TerraDactyl lost her whole lunch, we ended up doing that vaccine over.  It went much better the second time.  Thankfully.  The shots were very upsetting, so it took us a while before TerraDactyl calmed down enough for us to walk home again and the next few hours she was a little quick to cry, but not too bad.

The whole point of a bib is to have a convenient suck-toy, right?
