Starting from Scratch

I've been working on strengthening my transverse abdominals and I feel like I'm pleased with their progress.  But my rectus abdominals (the six pack muscles) are still non-existent.  So I've added some extra exercises to try and work on those.  It's weird, I'm basically trying to build them up from scratch.  I can't remember a time in my life that my abs have been so weak.  So the typical workouts I would do to work on ab strength don't quite apply.

These terrycloth footie pajamas remind me of 70's lounge wear.  I think it's the neckline.

I decided to add push ups to my routine.  I figure they're like planks, but with extra arm strengthening added in.  It's a two for one sort of thing.  ...  I did three push ups.  Three.  And it wasn't even my arms that gave out, it was my core.  So I broke down and did knee push ups, for like, the first time ever.  This moment was probably the most "this is not my body" feeling in the last year, even including when I was super pregnant.  I guess since I wasn't trying to do these things, I didn't realize just how incapable I was of doing them...?

TerraDactyl sleeping in her new Ring Sling.  She conks out so hard, I have a drool cloth in there so I don't get slimed.

TerraDactyl still has a bit of cradle cap.  It's much better than it was, but there's still a bit there.  And now we've come to the down side of TerraDactyl discovering her hands...  She scratched the heck out of her head during a nap.  At night she's in her Swaddle Up, so her hands aren't accessible.  But nap time, she's in regular clothes.  She woke herself up from her nap screaming about the three gouges she'd just put in her little scalp.  So I put her hands in Time-Out (aka mittens).

TerraDactyl and her fists of shame
TerraDactyl and I walked to the grocery store this week.  It was her first ever trip inside a grocery store.  Rather than leave the stroller outside and transfer her to a cart I just used my stroller as a cart.  I'm not really sure what the proper protocol is.  I don't see many strollers in stores, but I also think most people drive to the store.  But I didn't have infinite storage space in the stroller, so I figured the best way to make sure I didn't over purchase was to use the stroller as I shopped.  But it did feel weird.  Kind of like I was shoplifting.  Obviously, I paid for everything, it was just an odd feeling tucking unpaid products into my personal holder rather than the store's holder.  I was working against some major conditioning, that's for sure.

3-6 mo sized Gerber onesie.  Maybe it's so tight so it can be an undershirt?

A few of the 3-6 month clothes have really weird proportions.  Like they were purchased from the "Big" section of a Big and Tall store.  They're like the same length as her 3 month clothes, but almost twice as wide.  It's kind of funny.  Especially since TerraDactyl is like 60th percentile in length, and 80th percentile in weight.  So it seems like she should be filling the width better than the length.

It's hard to see just how much extra width there is in a picture, but trust me, it's there!

Phew!  I've officially caught myself up!  Tomorrow's blog should be entirely current info/pics.
