Windstorm!

We got some crazy winds for a couple days.  It was a bit scary, mostly because we're surrounded by giant trees.  The trees we love for the sound absorption and privacy become a bit more ominous when we're having the worst wind we've ever had.  We lost five trees, we think.  Only one of those trees was from our yard.  The others are down on the hill in our "forest".  We haven't really explored down the hill yet.

The tree that fell in our yard fell just perfectly.  It barely grazed our pump house, but it was just the leaves that hit it so there was no damage.  And it missed the Prius by like a foot or two.  So the only damage was to the tree.  That poor tree that had already lost a limb.  He's definitely got to come down now.

The winds seemed to have died down and we thought we were out of the woods when the fifth tree fell down.  It was one of the "forest" trees, but it fell against our fence, right next to the house.  The fence looked like it survived the hit, so that's good.  But we certainly have a huge mess to clean up.  Even without all the downed trees, there's so much debris and limbs that fell, it's crazy.

TerraDactyl was disappointed that she wasn't allowed to go outside for two days straight because it was too windy.  I tried to go out for a bit Tuesday morning, but it was still pretty windy and I saw a limb fall out of a tree, so I hurried us back inside.  And that is when we discovered that TerraDactyl's shoes glowed in the dark!!  I LOVE THEM!

We lost power periodically throughout Monday and Tuesday.  We've got a lot of natural light, so that wasn't too bad.  And we have good lanterns for night time with plenty of back up batteries.  The problem we ran into is that we're on a well.  And the pump is electric.  So I got some extra water to keep by the toilets so we could at least flush them if we lost power for a long time.

Of course, TerraDactyl found the water pretty much immediately.  She spent about 10 minutes trying to lift the gallon of water.  She tried from all angles, but since it's about 1/3 of her body weight, she really struggled with it.

TerraDactyl is still experimenting with miss-matched shoes.  She really seems to like it.  Here's a great clip of Riley and TerraDactyl rough housing.  She was giggling SO HARD.  This is just the tail end of the play when they were both getting worn out.
