A Weekend of Firsts

We went out of town this weekend and it allowed TerraDactyl to have some firsts.  This was her first time playing piano.  She actually really liked the piano.  It was a good height for her (she could reach the keys while standing).  And she really enjoyed listening to other people play.  It was also the first time TerraDactyl got to listen to records:

And TerraDactyl got to witness her first game of horse shoes.  I had her in a pack on my back while I played DH at horseshoes.  We were both pretty terrible at it, but our last throws of the game were awesome.  DH's throw (red) was leaning against the post, and then on my throw...  I not only managed to knock DH's off the post, but I also got a ringer (white)!  It was awesome.  I wish I had a video, but a pic will have to do.

TerraDactyl also got her first introduction to a large body of water.  And she loved it!  She was totally down with splashing around in the water.  In fact, I had to cut this video short because she was just running out into the water and I had to chase after her because I was worried the drop off was a bit sudden for her.

TerraDactyl was a little hesitant when DH took her out so deep in the water that she couldn't touch the ground.  In fact, in this video, you can see her trying to use her legs to cling onto DH's leg.  It was pretty funny once she did glom onto him.  She was totally chill just hanging out on his leg until DH brought her back to shallower water.

We also discovered that TerraDactyl is fascinated by ovens in all their iterations.  I'm glad we don't have an old fashioned oven like this one.  I mean, how did the pioneers keep their kids from burning their hands crazy bad?!?  TerraDactyl LOVED playing with all the knobs and levers and everything on the oven.  One more reason to be happy we live in the modern era (even if it is crazy at times).

TerraDactyl also made a friend.  This little guy is 8 months old (compared to TerraDactyl's 16 months).  He's so long, they're basically the same height.  It was fun watching them interact.  TerraDactyl followed him around handing him toys and then taking them back.  And she petted his head at one point.  I'm a little worried that social isolation has resulted in TerraDactyl thinking that dogs and babies are the same species.  Cause that's pretty much how she treats Riley.  But, in her defense...  he was crawling around on all fours.

Phew!  That's a long post!  I think I'll save some for another day.  For now, I'll just leave you with this picture because it makes me laugh.  I just hear the song "House of Pain" (aka Jump, Jump, Jump Around) in my head when I see it.

  1. My little guy! TD was a huge inspiration to him, I think--he's really crawling around fast now and trying SO HARD to stand up.

    1. That's how Riley learned how to use a dog door (he watched DH's parents' dogs do it). It's also how TerraDactyl learned how to use a dog door... (she watched Riley). ;)
