The Joys of Crinkle Toys

When we were at the Werewolf party this weekend, the Adventures gave TerraDactyl a crinkle toy that they had made.  It's a square with fleece on one side, and a satin-y kind of fabric on the other side, and a pork rind wrapper in the middle!  :)  It's always fun watching TerraDactyl interact with new things, figuring out how they work.  She gets such a serious look of concentration, interspersed with a joyful "discovery" faces. 

It crumples, too!

TerraDactyl is getting more consistent about shoving things into her mouth.  I don't think she's teething yet.  She doesn't seem to be too upset like I would expect a teething baby to be.  I think it's just the whole "mouth exploration" stage.  But she does definitely chomp down on things once they're in her mouth. 

I don't really like how this zipper feels, but I'm gonna double down on it and chew some more...

TerraDactyl is getting so strong.  When I help her do a sit up, she pops right up to standing now!  She's experimenting with her balance a bit in the picture below.  DH was just using his hands to prevent her from falling, not actually holding her up.  She looked a bit like an unsure surfer with her hips wobbling forward and backward.

Introducing Peanut Butter in 3, 2, 1...

What's that, Mr. Ed? That picture is of TerraDactyl working on her first bite of peanut butter.  I didn't give her very much at all.  She just licked it off my finger.  But it got on her lips and then she spent several minutes trying to lick it off her lips.  Good news:  TerraDactyl did not have  a reaction to the peanut butter.  AND she really liked it.  Like really liked it.  Since it was her first exposure, I didn't want to give her too much, just in case she did react to it.  So after a few licks, I cut her off.  And boy, TerraDactyl did not like that.  She was pretty ticked off when I stopped caving in to her demands for more peanut butter.  Angelina books are so much fun! Mud on Your Face, You Big Disgrace

Remember that Queen song, We Will Rock You ?  There's that line: "You got mud on your face, you big disgrace"?  Well, TerraDactyl and I should have made our own music video for it.  We went out for a walk, but only made it down the hill to our neighbor's driveway.  They had the most amazing mud puddle, and TerraDactyl spent 10 minutes just running from one end of the puddle to the other.  I took some video, but unfortunately, I missed the amazing face plant.  She must have had her mouth open when she fell, because when she pushed her face up to start crying, her mouth was FULL of mud.  This picture above is after I took her coat off and used the inside to wipe out her mouth as well as wipe off her face. Advances in Tools

TerraDactyl is not quite as tall as she would like to be.  So she's been looking into using different tools to help her get what she wants.  Usually it's a place mat.  She pulls the place mat off the table and whatever was on it comes with.  (Yay for the heartiness of Corelle dishes!)  She almost always wants the steak knife (of course).  But lately, she's started experimenting with stepping stools.  I may have to re-think the ingenuity of giving her an empty milk carton to play with...   TerraDactyl is also making advances in showing affection.  She's done both the sloppy wet kisses and the funny air kisses to family for a while.  But she also wants to show affection to her favorite dolls and stuffed animals.  She's started kissing them (and rubbing their heads).
